What’s that all mean
If you’re looking for a great Android device and can live with a last gratin CPU then the Google Pixel 3 is excellent value. There’s not a lot you can’t do with it and, as it comes from Google, will be one of the first handsets to officially get Android Q support when that’s released later this year.
And while it lacks the multi-camera set up of the other two handsets, photo quality has been rated very highly proving there’s more to shooting good pics with a smartphone than loading up with a stack of sensors – although it doesn’t hurt.
When it comes to the Huawei and Samsung options, the difference isn’t so clear. Both have great displays and ship with the latest hardware – the Galaxy S10 with the latest Qualcomm has to offer with the Huawei running the last Kirin chip from its own factory.
Samsung has an edge when it comes usability. One UI offers a nicer user experience, in my view, than EMUI although that’s a subjective call, coming down to personal preferences. But, as I said in my Huawei Mate20 Pro review, Huawei could make things better for users by not loading their own versions of apps that are basically clones of the default Android apps.
Choosing between the two will, in part, come down to brand loyalty and which feels better in your hand. The Huawei is a larger and heavier but has a larger display, albeit at a slightly lower pixel density.
With those two, I’d suggest a trip to your local phone retailer and some serious hands-on time before committing to one or the other.
