macOS: We love Bartender, the $21 app that lets you hide menu bar items of your choice. But there’s a simpler, cheaper app that does the same thing. Vanilla hides your menu bar items for just $7. And you can try it for free.

While Bartender 3 has advanced features such as search and special rules for showing and hiding icons, Vanilla still has the most important features, including a keyboard shortcut.
It looks slightly cleaner in the menu bar, and its interface is more intuitive: To hide or unhide an icon, you hold down the Command key and drag it to the other side of Vanilla’s little arrow icon.

If you’re already using Bartender, you probably don’t need to switch. But if you never used Bartender, Vanilla might be a better choice. Luckily, both apps offer a free trial version.
