8.5 million people called emergency services in Australia in 2016-17. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) — who regulate and monitor phone carriers — have done some research into who, when and why these calls are made.
Here are the results.
The majority of Australians are aware of when it’s appropriate to call 000 — or the alternate mobile number 112 — but startlingly few make use of the free Emergency+ app that gives location data to emergency services in order to speed up responses.
