Supermarket chain Aldi is releasing a mobile phone plan that gives you unlimited calls and SMS along with 42GB of data that you’ll have to ration over a one-year period. The one-year mobile plan will set you back $249. Here are all the details.
Here’s what you’ll get with the $249 Aldi 1 Year Super Pack mobile plan:
- Unlimited standard national calls, SMS and MMS. This includes 13, 1200 and 1800 numbers.
- 42GB of data (equivalent to 3.5GB per month) that is allocated to you in one lump sum.
- 365-day expiry period
- Pay $15 to get a 2GB data top-up if you burn through your 42GB
Data is charged per 1KB. If you use up your data limit. You will be charged 5c per MB.
Aldi’s mobile service uses part of Telstra’s 4G mobile network. According to Aldi: “The mobile product of ALDImobile provides a 4G coverage footprint of 95% and a combined 4G and 3G coverage footprint of 98.8% of the Australian population covering 1.59 million square kilometers.”
Again, this plan only covers standard national numbers so if you want to make an international call, that will cost extra. Also note that the plan is intended for personal use only. You can read more about the terms of use here.
The Aldi 1 Year Super Pack will be available on February 4 from all Aldi stores.

Wow, thats a crazy deal
very steep on the over charge for data though at 5c/MB but if you manage your data usage it should be fine.
I might pick one of these up for my carputer / gps project im working on.
Yep, if you’re on that deal it’d be a good idea to keep tabs on your data and do the $15/2GB top-up rather than head into the overcharge zone.
@Spandas – can you remind us whose network/bands this Aldi MVNO would access?
Aldi uses Telstra.
Cool.
@Anyone who’s used both Telstra and ALDI – what’s the difference in the limited bands/services that big T let ALDI have access to? I’ve read that there may be some coverage/data speed differences.
As far as I know, it’s identical.
My wife has an Aldi sim, and it says “Telstra” as the carrier on her phone. It does 3G and 4G coverage.

Damn, rules me out. House is in a Telstra dead spot. Great deal though…
Hi Phil,
Sorry, I missed this comment! Yes, Aldi uses Telstra.
I’ll also add it in the article for clarity.
Cheers!
Spandas
Kogan Mobile have a similar deal for $179/ 12 months with only 1GB data – so if you don’t need data, you can save a bundle going that way.
Am with Optus at present. Can I bring my current phone number to ALDI with me?
