Reader Sebastian submitted this beautiful desktop to our Desktop Showcase, and the combination of the wallpaper and a few tasteful skins is a solid, sharp look. Here’s how he set it all up.
First of all, Sebastian used Rainmeter to get this look, and we just updated our guide to Rainmeter so you have something to check out if you’re looking to get started tweaking with it.
Once you have it downloaded and you’re familiar with how it works, here’s what you’ll need to make this look yours:
- The City Highway Night wallpaper
- The Rainmeter system tweaking and monitoring tool for Windows
- The ClearText widget for Rainmeter for the music text
- The CoveR widget for Rainmeter for the “now playing” artwork
- The Cowon Clock skin for Rainmeter for the clock in the upper right
- The Circle Launcher skin for Rainmeter for the Office launcher icons in the lower left
- The Simplic skin for the weather display on his tablet, which serves as a second screen thanks to Duet Display, our favourite app for turning an iPad into a second screen.
You can check out that iPad as a second screen at the link below, but aside from that, it’s a simple, neatly customised look that doesn’t take a ton of moving parts to bring to life. That’s part of why we like it so much. If you have questions about your own desktop, or how to make yours look like this, hit the link below and check it out at Sebastian’s Kinja blog. Make sure to let him know how much you — and we — like how it all turned out!
