You can now officially and legally watch the Grand Tour in Australia on desktop and mobile devices. Here’s what you need to know.
Before you get too excited, Amazon Prime’s full gamut of services hasn’t hit our shores just yet; this is just the video streaming part of Prime. Over in the US, an Amazon Prime subscription gives you free two-day shipping of goods bought through the online retailer along with access to movies, TV shows, music, e-books and unlimited photo storage.
Now Amazon Prime Video has been launched globally and is available in over 200 counties. You can watch video content through the Amazon Prime Video app on Android and iOS devices, Fire Tablets and a select range of LG and Samsung Smart TVs. You can also watch shows online through PrimeVideo.com and download all the titles to mobile devices for offline viewing.
The introductory price for the service is $US2.99 per month for the first six months; it normally costs $US5.99 per month. You can stream on up to three devices at once. Amazon Prime Video will automatically adjust picture and audio quality to reduce buffering and provide the best quality for your available internet bandwidth.
The service supports multiple video formats up to and including Ultra High Definition/4K, but you’ll need to have an internet connection of at least 15Mbps to watch videos in such high quality.
Here are some of the Amazon Original Series shows you can get through the service (Click here for the full list):
- The Grand Tour
- Transparent (Season 1 and 2 only)
- Mozart in the Jungle (Season 1 and 2 only)
- The Man in the High Castle
- Creative Galaxy
- Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street
- Tumble Leaf
- Wishenpoof
You also get access to a bunch of non-Amazon movies movies and TV shows although most of the titles are quite old. I’ll be watching Jurassic Park tonight.
Mind you, we had an inkling that Prime Video would come to Australia after Amazon sneakily made The Grand Tour available to launch audiences ahead of schedule a few weeks ago through the Prime website.
Last month, Amazon also launched an all-you-can-read Kindle Unlimited subscription service in Australia.
Amazon’s Online Store is expected to hit Australia next year.
You can sign up for Amazon Prime Video here. You can get the Amazon Prime app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

And it doesn’t talk much about the only thing that really matters – content.
Or quality. Or number of streams. Or anything useful for that matter. C’mon ffs.
I’m working on it!
Thanks for the update efforts.
Had to sign up for an account and check it out for myself.
Updated the article.
Hang on, you just signed up to service after posting the article. Not knowing what the overall experience was personally. That doesn’t seem like good journalism, if I say so myself.
Hi ZNMS,
If this was a review then I could understand your criticism, but it’s not.
I posted about the news of the service coming to Australia based on the official annoucement, which already contained pricing and other information. I spent an hour testing the service and added more details as soon as I could.
I’m sorry you feel the way you do but we were not given early access to the service and, again, this is not a review.
Hope this helps.

Agreed with the author, This article only covers the news which comes from official channel. But now I feel that you should check this thoroughly and read a comprehensive review from Australian prospect.
By the way, I love The Grand Tour
Content? There’s not much.
The main draw card is The_Real_Top_Gear – and pretty much the only reason I signed up. Beyond that little of their own content appealed, and all the movies are already on FTA or other streaming services.
It’s worth noting that Netflix’s AU offering was much like this at the start. Hence the plethora of DNS spoofing and VPN services accessing US content. More recently these haven’t been so essential since the AU content is getting closer to comparable.
P.S: quality doesn’t seem to be an issue – we’re getting content in 1080p
All valid points, but don’t entitle the post with a clickbaity “everything you need to know” unless, y’know, it has everything you need to know.
Fair point. Certainly wasn’t my intention to be clickbaity. I just wanted to get the news out there to LH readers.
I was adding extra bits in progressively and as fast as I could within the hour. It has all the key information in there now.
“what we know so far about…” 🙂
It’s not just available on desktops and mobile devices, the app is now showing up on LG tvs, not sure about other branded TVs. And I believe fetch TV will soon have the app.
Hiya!
Yeah, I mentioned it in the article. Also available on selected Samsung Smart TV.
I haven’t heard anything about it launching on Fetch TVand it wasn’t mentioned in the announcement we received from Amazon. Will have to investigate!
Hiya,
I think you can use the Amazon Instant video on the Xbone as well. You might need to change the region to U.S. briefly to download the app (until they recognise it is available for Australia), but then you should be good to go 🙂
Just got it working on my PS4. Just needed to create a new user with a new PSN account with a country of USA (no verification required) then you can see the Amazon Video app in the PSN store. Once installed it is available to all your users (Australian) logged in fine and watched Grand Tour 🙂
Probably only a matter of time before it is available in the Australian PSN store by default. But relatively painless work around in the meantime.
Thanks for letting me know!
Might have to do a separate article about how to get Prime working on consoles.
Cheers.

I joined up a few weeks ago, and tried to stream about a dozen tv shows and mpvies and got “not available in your location” messages every time.
Cancelled and got a refund on the same day.
BTW Transparent and Mozart In The Jungle are both available on Stan.
Not even remotely interested in The Grand Tour.
If this was an honest info piece about Amazon Prime you would have mentioned that a lot (probably most) of the content listed on their site is still geo-blocked (maybe even most of it).
For the time being I’ll stick with Netflix and Stan.
Do you know if Amazon Prime au comes with other Prime benefits such as access to WaPo digital edition (free for six months then reduced price subscription) and free shipping?
