I absolutely love sweet potatoes (and yams) but I’m not a huge fan of waiting the hour or so it takes to cook them in the (very hot) oven. To cut down on this interminable wait, slice them and pop ’em in your toaster.

I will be honest, I initially reacted poorly to this idea, as it was framed as “the next gluten-free toast craze”. Let’s be real: A slice of sweet potato is not a slice of bread, no matter how it’s prepared, but Instagram food trends aside, toasted sweet potato is delicious.
To get in on this action, cut some sweet potatoes lengthwise into 0.5cm slices and put them in your toaster. Cook them on the highest setting until the outsides start to brown and they can be pierced with a fork. Depending on how hot your toaster runs, this should take about 15 minutes. (You may have to push them back down into the toaster a few times. It’s worth noting that the toaster method is only practical if you’re cooking a sweet potato or two, but slicing before popping in the oven will also radically reduce the cooking time.) Remove from the toaster, and slather your slices with the usual sweet potato toppings, or try the trend and top ’em with cream cheese, almond butter, jam or even avocado for ultimate trendiness.

I presume you can also use the microwave oven.
Or the grill.
“absolutely love” what does that mean? Maybe I love a real lot….ah, the dumbing down of English…everything is ‘absolutely’.
