Windows: Jerome doesn’t have admin rights to his work laptop (which makes sense), but he didn’t want that to stop him from adding a little personality to it. The result is this good-looking, informative, and custom Windows desktop. Here’s how he set it all up.
Luckily for Jerome, Rainmeter and RocketDock don’t require admin rights to run. Using them in combination, he managed to replace his taskbar with a dock, customise his wallpaper so it doesn’t look too out of place compared to his colleagues, and make something really special. Remember, he’s tweaking on top of his company-issued wallpaper, so if you want the exact look, you’ll have to find a suitable replacement — his isn’t available. Beyond that, here’s what you’ll need:
- The Rainmeter system tweaking and monitoring tool for Windows;
- The GoogleBar skin for Rainmeter, tweaked to use DuckDuckGo;
- The KitKat Clock skin for Rainmeter for the floating clock in the top centre of the desktop;
- The SimpleSentenceThree skin for Rainmeter for the weather display and the system monitors on the right side of the desktop;
- The RocketDock launcher for Windows and a minimised taskbar;
- The Junior Iconset to replace the defauly icons in RocketDock.
That’s all there is to this one. You can apply this on top of any wallpaper — Jerome tweaked the colours and fonts a bit to match the colour scheme of his company desktop so he didn’t have to change it — and still got something really personal.
