iOS/Android/Web: Parallels Access, the awesome mobile remote desktop tool, is now even more awesome. The new version finally lets you remote control your computer from within any browser (including a Chromebook).
Parallels Access is a $24.99 yearly subscription that gives you remote access for up to five computers. The new version lets you use any HTML5 compatible browser, meaning you no longer need to have the mobile app handy. I did a test drive from a Chromebook and the access was just like other remote control programs. The control was smooth over both Wi-Fi and mobile connections. My only major complaint is that it doesn’t support multiple monitors.
The mobile apps got a small update too: the Parallels Access app now transfers files to and from your phone or tablet. On iOS, they have enabled the document picker. With Access, you can take a file from the remote computer and open it right on your iPhone or iPad. Both apps add the ability to play sounds from the remote computer while Parallels Access is in the background.
Just like the previous version, the app changes the resolution of your remote computer to match the resolution of your mobile device. It also gives you the option to remotely blank the screen so nobody at home or work can see what you’re doing. Check out the update at Parallels’ homepage below.
