I guess it’s better to be in a suburb where fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) NBN connections are promised than to be in one where no-one knows what’s happening. NBN Co has released a list of the first 140 suburbs that will be set up.
NBN Co says that more than 240,000 households will be covered by the plan. You’ll be waiting until at least the third quarter for services in these locations to go on sale, since that’s when they’ll be opened up to ISPs for resale. That’s no guarantee that all these places will be ready by then, and no guarantee that every house in a named suburb will be connected either. That said, none of these locations were on the list due to get full fibre connections in the next 12 months either.
Here are the locations broken down by area:

Seems pretty random. Lake Macquarie?? Weird.
They’re really just doing the whole of the lower hunter. I live in Cameron Park and all mail gets directed as Newcastle, but I technically live in Lake Macquarie.
I get the feeling this is just to please the people in the hunter so they’ll stop bitching about being ignored in every budget.
It is my humble wish the the Australian Catholic Government chokes on a bag of male appendages. There is no plan to “roll out” the nbn in my area, and if it does some time in the future, it will be about the same speed as my current connection. I don’t think the Labor party could have been this incompetent if they had a run up. At least my children will have the benefit of an in-school fairytale advisor. That’s 21st century Australia. Fairytales to the classroom, but nbn to the marginal seat. If Turnbull is so smart, how did he get outmanoeuvred by a man who was studying to tell fairytales for his career?
Where’s the love for the rest of the country?
How much of the voting population does your region make up? If not at least 20%; GET OUTTTTTT!
A long way short of the 2016 targets as promised at the last election. But I guess thats no surprise
You’d think they’d do all of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane first – you know, where people ACTUALLY live.
That’s a terrible idea. The first roll out is a test. Complex projects always have unforeseen issues. Even issues that you expect need to be tested. Think of it as a public beta.
I expect they’ll see to all the marginal seats first, urban or rural.
you must live in a nutshell my friend. yes ppl live out of shitney i mean sydney. im from lake macquarie/newcastle and would happily say theres many things that we here have paid so u can live in the rat race .
I’m really pissed at not getting the NBN here, when we had the trucks in our street a week before the election, now not even on the roadmap.
However I was more pissed yesterday when picking up my severely disabled daughter from emergency respite care to find out that the State Government is quietly closing all of the disability respite centres, and getting away with it. I’m not a labour supporter but the Libs seem genuinely evil.
