So you’ve acquired a shiny new tablet or phone, but what apps should you install on it? Here are five recent apps that are definitely worth checking out.

GIFwrapped
iOS: Want to build up a collection of animated GIFs to delight/enrage your friends? GIFwrapped automates the process, highlighting GIFs featured in your Twitter feed so you can save them for your own use. If your friends have terrible taste in GIFs, there’s also a search feature.
MediaMonkey
Android: MediaMonkey is one of our favourite music players for Windows, so we were very happy when the Android version appeared recently. You can sync the app with your existing MediaMonkey playlist, and also organise and sort your music directly on the device. Neat tricks include the ability to see lyrics for any track by swiping along the album art. The free version is impressive, while the paid version adds Wi-Fi syncing and DLNA support.
Bills Forecast
iOS: Locally-developed Bills Forecast (you can read more about its development here) is a neat way of keeping your finances under control. Enter details of recurring bills and you’ll receive a notification reminding you when the payment date draws near.
Frequency
Android: If you’re worried you have an app addiction, the cure might be . . . another app. Frequency identifies the apps you use most often and tells you exactly how long you spend using them. It’s a simple idea but well-executed.
Adobe Videobite
iOS: Shooting videos on your phone is easy, but editing can be tricky. Videobite does a good job of making the process straightforward, and lets you add titles, insert photos, create transitions and add music. Definitely worth checking out if you want to step up your video output.

As usual your lack of Windows device support is annoying
Yes. It’s ‘annoying’ that with the opportunity to highlight five new apps, they chose not to squander a slot on an OS that 90% of the Aussie market doesn’t use.
