Blending private cloud and public cloud systems into a hybrid model can be challenging, especially in terms of ensuring fast enough access to the public elements. Networked data centre provider Equinix is trying to solve that problem with its new NetApp Private Storage for Amazon Web Services.

The option allows businesses with cloud systems hosted in Equinix centres to use the Amazon Direct Connect feature to access data stored in Amazon’s AWS cloud systems.
“This is really a hybrid cloud architecture,” Equinix Asia Pacific director of cloud, IT and enterprise Eric Hui told Lifehacker. “It addresses a lot of people’s concerns about using public cloud computing resources. People can utilise the Amazon Direct Connect feature to get sub-5ms access to nodes. We also think it’s a good proof point for customers who are a little sceptical about cloud services.”
The service will be offered through Equinix sites in Sydney, Singapore and Tokyo, as well as its US locations.
