Android: Fans of Swype, one of our favourite Android keyboards, have a lot to be happy about today: Nuance has rolled out a major update to the Swype Beta that includes an updated keyboard, real predictive text for those who still tap individual letters, the ability to edit words in Swype’s built-in dictionary and more.
The biggest change you’ll notice in the beta is the improved keyboard. It still works like the old one, meaning you can still draw from letter to letter to input words, but the keyboard also now features Nuance’s XT9 predictive text, so if you start tapping letters to spell a word out, Swype can now predict the word you’re typing, even if you’re still tapping on-screen keys.
Also, the new keyboard learns your typing habits as you use it, modifying its predictions and auto-filled words based on the ones you use most frequently. Swype has also taken a page from its competition and can now learn words from your text messages and emails to improve its prediction.
The new version of the Swype beta is available now. Swype says that the newest beta release will install and live alongside any pre-installed versions of Swype your manufacturer may have included with your phone, but tread carefully there.
