Twitter has just launched a weekly email in which it promises to point out interesting tweets and content you might otherwise have missed. Given the spectacular failure of its existing Discover option, which is supposed to perform the same function in real-time, I’m dubious as to how well this will work.
As someone who uses the basic Twitter site rather than a client, I like the idea of the Discover tab, which is supposed to surface interesting stuff from what can be a very big flood of information in your Twitter stream. This is how Twitter says it’s supposed to work
When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests—based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world. As you use Twitter more, Discover gets even better at serving up more content just for you.
Unfortunately, this hasn’t ever worked out for me. Discover often shows me US-centric stories, repeats generic news I could pick up from anywhere, often highlights stuff I’ve already clicked through from Twitter, and hence hasn’t yet inspired me to actually click on a link. If the weekly email uses the same technology, I can’t imagine spending time on it either.
But maybe that’s just me. Have you found Twitter’s Discover tab to be useful?
