You’ve made a batch of delicious cookies to give out to neighbours or enjoy over the long Christmas weekend, but you left them in just a little too long and now the tops are slightly burnt. The folks at America’s Test Kitchen suggest reaching for a microplane grater to shave off some of the burnt bits and save your batch.
If you’ve ever used a butter-knife to scrape the top layer from a slice of burnt toast, you already understand how this works. Just run the grater across the burnt top of the cookie a few times to scrape off the burned bits, and it’s ready to serve. It’s definitely a bit unorthodox, and it only applies if the very top of the cookie is burned, but it’s crazy enough that it just might work. If you don’t have a microplane grater, a couple of gentle rubs against a clean regular grater should do the trick as well.
What do you think? Ridiculous idea or pure genius? Perhaps you’d just ice the biscuits and call it a day. Whatever you think, let us know in the comments below.
