Optus’ own budget-priced Android tablet, the 7-inch, 2.1-running MyTab, goes on sale tomorrow. As well as being offered outright for $279 (or $269 if you order on the Optus web site), you will be able buy the device on a range of 24-month contracts, the cheapest of which is $29.95 a month for 4GB a month of data.
The postpaid plan options don’t go on sale until December 20. The prepaid option comes with 3GB of data, with a 90 day expiry. The prepaid tablet is network locked, though you can get it unlocked if you recharge with more than $100.
There’s a good range of Android tablets now on sale in Australia, both for outright purchase and on contract. Optus’ addition essentially creates a two-way contest with Telstra for the low end of the market, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab continues to hold the performance high ground for the moment.
