Reviews have started coming in for the Razer Phone 2, the hardware manufacturer’s second attempt at creating the perfect phone for gamers. The early consensus suggests it might just have succeeded this time. Here’s what you need to know about the Razer Phone 2 in Australia.
Razer Phone 2’s new features
The Razer Phone 2 is the rare follow-up that retains all of the best aspects of the original, while adding improvements to the parts that weren’t so good.
In the category of returning features for the Razer phone, its best feature is the beautiful 120Hz, HDR compatible 5.72″ IGZO LCD display. The phone is compatible with Netflix HDR content, though it’s no longer the only phone to do so.
Another big win for the original Razer Phone and now the second is that big 4000 mAh battery. What’s new is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip under the hood, and to keep these both functioning properly is a huge (for a phone) vapour chamber cooling system. This is a gaming phone after all, and games can heat a phone up like nothing else.
The storage is expandable by up to 2TB, another must for keen gamers, but the biggest upgrade is to one of the original phone’s biggest weaknesses – the camera, which may not compete with the beautiful image quality of your Samsungs, iPhones and Huaweis but it’s still a lot better than the first Razer Phone’s.
Most importantly for any piece of gaming tech, the Razer Phone 2 now has programmable RGB lights. Hooray!

The company officially unveiled it in a keynote livestream earlier this afternoon, and having spent some time with the phone under embargo earlier this week, it’s safe to say the new Razer Phone might be the most improved device of 2018.”]
Razer Phone 2 Australian Release Date
While we don’t have an exact release date yet, we know the Razer Phone 2 will arrive in Australia from November and will be available from Optus, both to buy outright and on a plan.
Razer Phone 2 Australian Pricing
Neither Razer nor Optus have released Australian pricing, but we’ll update when it’s released. To give you a vague idea, the phone is going for $US800 ($1,123) for the 64GB model and $US900 ($1,263) the 128GB model in the US – you can expect an Australia tax markup on those conversions.
