After months of leaked specifications and alleged screen protectors, we finally have our first image of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. As previously reported, the new phone is thicker than its predecessor and boasts a new finger print reader. (Best of all, the stylus isn’t yellow. Hurrah!)
The image above recently appeared on the tech blog DroidLife. It purports to show the final-release version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – and there is strong reason to believe it’s genuine.
The full photo clearly shows Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh using the phone. (The photo was allegedly taken while Koh was waiting to speak at a media event in China.) It seems unlikely that the head of the company would be using an out-of-date prototype in public.
Unfortunately we can only see the back of the device, but it’s still possible to glean a few things from the image. The fingerprint reader has been repositioned closer to the dual cameras – confirming earlier hardware leaks.
To our eyes, it also appears slightly thicker than its direct predecessor, the Note 8. This is also something that had been previously reported on and was apparently an engineering decision to make the device more durable.
The Note9 is also expected to come with an improved camera (which may boast an adjustable aperture, multiframe noise reduction and a super slo-mo video mode), a more powerful Snapdragon 845 processor, Bixby 2.0, a slightly bigger screen and a major upgrade to the S-Pen.
Speaking of the S-Pen, the version in the above photo is black – not the yellow/gold monstrosity shown in promotional teasers.
The Galaxy Note9 SPen can be used to control long-range self-timer, control music playback, because it is a Bluetooth device, it will do something unrelated to the pen. pic.twitter.com/WPS83xUskq

All will likely be revealed on August 9 during Samsung’s ‘Unpacked’ press event in New York.
