Motorists travelling across the Sydney Harbour Bridge this morning are experiencing huge delays after a man climbed into the bridge’s southern arch. Police and emergency services have closed several lanes as they attempt to communicate with the climber.
If attempting to travel across the bridge, in either direction, this morning, motorists are advised to find alternative means. At present, two northbound lanes and a southbound lane are closed and speed restrictions are in place for the lanes that remain open.
7News have reported a 30km traffic jam on the southbound approach to the Bridge as police continue to negotiate with the man.

For those travelling by train, services on the North Shore Line and Northern Line are still operational across the bridge and should not be affected, however buses are experiencing 30 minute delays.

If you’re about to head into work via car, it’s probably best you take the train today. Those already travelling might not have much warning, but if you know of anyone heading in across the bridge, perhaps try and call them and let them know to use the Sydney Harbour Tunnel or cross at Gladesville instead.
The latest update suggests that the Cahill Expressway is closed northbound above Circular Quay. There are diversions via the Harbour Tunnel but signficant delays are expected.
