On September 20, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will release a redesigned $10 banknote with new security features to prevent counterfeiting ranging from bird wings that flap to micro-printed poetry. This video explains everything you need to know about how these features work.
The video above comes direct from the RBA. It breaks down the new $10 banknote’s security features – which include an animated cockatoo and secret art that only appears under UV light. The video also explains what to do if you come across a suspect banknote.
The note still depicts portraits of Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson — however, the design has been updated with a colourful new “tactile strip” to aid the vision-impaired. There are also images of a pen nib in two of the clear windows and excerpts of their poetry in microprint.
It’s pretty amazing how advanced Autralian banknotes are compared to most other nations. Even the US is still using paper notes that can easily get destroyed when wet. You can find out more about how to spot a counterfeit banknote here.
