A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft pushed out a firmware upgrade for the Surface Pro 3. At the time, the release notes were a little thin on details but newly released notes deliver some happy news. The three year old device now supports the latest Type Covers.
MSPowerUser picked up the news. The full notes for the upgrade say:
- Surface Smart Cover Backlight – System device: 3.0.0.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
- Surface PTP Filter – HID 1.0.173.1: Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
- Surface Fingerprint Sensor Driver – Biometric device : 2.2.11.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
- Surface Pro Type Cover Integration – HID 1.0.2.0: Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
- Surface Type Cover Filter Device – Keyboards: 1.1.504.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
While support for the regular Type Covers is great, adding support for the biometric scanners is welcome.
Assuming you haven’t had any major support issues, this will give your aging Surface Pro 3 a nice upgrade.
