Nuts are great. Nuts are totally underrated. Specifically you should eat these (deez) nuts.
In the last month or so I’ve committed to eating more nuts. Not only that, but I’m trying to broaden the type of nuts that I eat. Getting some variety in my nut selection.
Nuts are high in calories, but they’re also high in fats (the good kind) and protein, so you tend to feel super full after eating them and that sensation of fullness lasts a long time. Studies show that eating a decent serving of nuts actually reduces your calories intake long term because it produces a sustained feeling of satiety.
Deez nuts are something else man.
(This is my last ‘deez nuts’ joke, I promise.)
#1 Macadamia Nuts
These are my personal favourite. High fat, low carb. Also delicious. Super crunchy. They tend to get a bad rap in some ‘BEST NUTS’ lists. Those people are idiots.
I’ve always found these make me feel super full and happy.
As do…
#2 Brazil Nuts
Brazil Nuts are one of the fattiest nuts you can consume (in a good way).
But yeah, maybe keep an eye on how many you eat, especially if you’re calories counting. ‘Cause these bad boys pack a mighty wallop.
On the flip side: they make you feel full as hell. They’re delicious and – unlike some nuts – are not moreish at all. And in general they are packed with stuff your body needs, like selenium, vitamin E, copper, magnesium, manganese and thiamin.
Just eat them. They’re good.
#3 Almonds
Almonds: so good every pompous celebrity lists them as a snack on those obnoxious ‘daily routine’ posts you see in terrible lifestyle magazines. Activated almonds anyone?
Jesus wept.
The best thing about almonds is the high protein content. Most people tend to consume too much protein, but if you’re looking to build muscle this is about as good a snack as you can eat.
I’d say in moderation though. Unlike Brazil nuts, I find I can blast through a bag of almonds in a worryingly short amount of time.
#4 Walnuts
Almost every single goddamn nut has the same list of health benefits – helps prevent heart disease, dense in copper, magnesium, manganese, etc. The cool thing about Walnuts is their unique taste and its rare anti-inflammatory benefits.
They’re a bit of an acquired taste though. Some people hate them. I enjoy them greatly.
As Pumba said in The Lion King, after skulling a handful of bugs, “you’ll learn to love them”.
Look, most nuts are great. I didn’t write about pistachios or cashews – but they are also awesome and share many of the same benefits as the nuts in the above list.
Long story short: eat more nuts.

I have had a craving for macadamia nuts recently, unfortunately they seem to go for around $50 a kilo, which prices me out of all but a very occasional snack. Any tips on cheaper ones?
agreed, nuts are great, but expensive. Any clues here? I guess they are cheaper in the shell? In bulk? Where is a good place to buy?
SA has a great company called Magnus Fruit Co which has dried fruit and nuts at great prices.
