Many entrepreneurs and small business owners are also workaholics. They’re motivated to work tirelessly to make their businesses success and want to spend every waking hour devoted to that. For that reason, they often don’t get time to rest, let alone go on a holiday. But taking a break to travel can give them a fresh perspective on their businesses. Here’s how.
According to a survey by NRMA, 37 per cent of small business owners take less than five day’s annual leave each year and 61 per cent take less than 10 days.
Over at Entrepreneur, Jonathan Long, the founder of Market Dominant Media, talked about how going on holidays has benefited him and his business. He said not only does a change of scenery inspire new ideas, it also helps tests automated systems he has in place:
“Most businesses with an online presence use some form of automation, be it lead generation or lead/sales nurturing. Just before we left for Hawaii, I’d set up a few new, automated funnels to market new courses and consulting programs. I was excited to see how they would perform while I was on vacation.
“Automating a large percentage of your business enables it to run on its own while you are away. It’s a beautiful thing. During my trip, I learned some components of my automation worked very well, but others needed tweaking. Sometimes the only way to truly test your systems is to give them a real-world run-through.”
Going on holidays has brought Long personal rewards and helped him stay focused as well. Head over to Entrepreneur to read more about the benefits of taking a break.
