Most of us need at least 50g of protein a day, and significantly more if we’re working out a lot or trying to lose weight. This graphic shows what 25g of protein looks like in a variety of foods, so you can eat a few of these portions and know you’re on the right track.
Athletes need between 0.5g and 0.8g of protein per pound of body weight per day (so, 75g-120g for a 150-pound person). Eating more than this is OK, as long as you’ve budgeted it into your calories for the day.
You can get a 25g helping of protein from a small portion of meat, four hard-boiled eggs or a cup of lentils. Check out the graphic for more examples from the plant and animal kingdoms.

jeez im glad i know how big a 3.3oz steak is, oh wait a minute i dont because i use the metric system
The discussion of grams of protein per pound of body weight is especially helpful.
Actually, the whole thing is “25 grams of protein is this much (in imperial measure) of these other things” which ALSO mixes up two measurement systems. It seems to me this would be confusing to just about everyone.
I really wish the USA would switch to metric, but I suspect they will do so only when we pry their yardsticks from their cold, dead hands.
Don’t you mean the imperial system, grams and kilograms is metric!
That’s why they included the emoji so you could judge it when you see it.
I like how they mix metric and imperial units when they say “.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight”
You beat me to it! I was having a browse and wondering what the hell an oz. then saw your comment. Also, pardon my ignorance, but what is a tempah or a seitan? Have to go now, or else I won’t have enough time to count the peanuts and almonds I’m preparing for my kids lunchboxes…
Again I have to ask why Lifehacker Australia posts things like this.
They aren’t listening.. they rarely do.
Quick convert using app on phone. 3 oz = 85 grams.

What size is a stick of mozzarella
How much does a medium shrimp weigh ?
Such arbitrary amounts are stupid.
Those must be some kind of super cashews if 17 of them = 25g protein. I doubt they even weight that much alone!
