Coconut oil is a fat-burning fat. If you don’t despise the lingering coconut taste, consider incorporating coconut oil into your diet or replacing another oil source, such as vegetable oil, with it to boost your body’s fat-burning ability. Win-win!

The key here is in coconut oil’s chemical structure. Compared to the long-chain fatty acids in other fat sources, our bodies metabolise the medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil differently. This results in the coconut oil fats to be readily used by the liver as energy. Eating coconut oil also tends to be thermogenic, which promotes fat-burning compared to the same amount of calories from other fat sources.
Does this mean you should be guzzling coconut oil to burn fat to the max? Heavens, no. Coconut oil is still really high in calories, and as with any unused energy — be it fatty acids, protein, or glucose — in excess of your daily caloric requirements — simply goes into storage (and over time could cause weight gain). Keep in mind, too, that individual response to medium-chain fatty acids can vary based on current body composition. Rather than adding coconut oil on top of your existing diet, you should swap it with another fat already in your diet, like vegetable oil.
If the fat-burning benefits of coconut oil aren’t enough, there are surprisingly many more unexpected uses for coconut oil. Head over to Greatist to check out the full list.

While it is a step in the right direction, I wouldn’t count on this as confirmed fact at this stage.
This has been well known for awhile. Coconut oil is pretty amazing. Looks like they just linked to a bad source.
I thought lifehacker knew hoe to report science.. this is far from confirmed with any level of certainty as per the previous commenter said.
Currently using Coconut Oil when cooking some foods. It alters the taste a little – so often it’s nice when cooking stir fry or with chicken.
It has quite a high smoke point so I often find it a lot better to cook with than vegetable or olive oils which can often just burn the outside of your food and pan with no real cooking going on.
This is all on the basis of actual use and ignores any real or imagined health benefits.
I’ve been using banaban branded coconut oil being sold by a mob down here on the GC… I went to restock on Friday and found they actually have a version called “gourmet” which has been extra filtered to mask the coconut flavour… I considered it for a moment, but I don’t hate the taste of coconut, so I’ll stick with the regular stuff, but FYI I guess if you’re not into the flavour of coconut oil, but want it’s health properties (no I don’t work for the aforementioned company)
The key to losing weight is simple. Just be consistent. All you need is a meal plan and a workout plan, and all you need to do is follow it. You don’t need to workout everyday or eat the same everyday. But you must be consistent in w.e path you choose.
