Sometimes you don’t have the time or patience for a recipe (or you just have some leftover ingredients). This chart shows you a simple formula to put together any slow cooker meal.
Essentially, a good slow cooker meal has five basic ingredients:
- Protein (beans, tofu, meat)
- Vegetables
- Liquid (including beer and wine)
- Herbs (dried or fresh)
- Flavour boosters like parmesan
The chart lists a few examples for each section, but you can experiment with the formula using what you have in the fridge and improvise. (It claims you can make 3125 meals, though we only count 25. We’re not sure where Prevention’s maths came from.)

There are 5 rows of 5 ingredients and each ingredient on a row can only be used once in the same meal. So the math is 5*5*5*5*5 or 5! which equals 3125. Now I know you guys are pseudo-journalists/monkeys on typewriters but this is simple math.
25 potential ingredients doesn’t equal 25 meals. They are suggesting you mix and match the ingredients for 3125 different total combinations.
simple math? you realise that 5! isn’t 5*5*5*5*5 right? it’s 5*4*3*2*1. maybe you should learn what “simple math” is lol
3125 possible combinations.. mathematically maybe, but some of those would make bloody awful meals. eg.. Beans + Olives + Coconut Milk + Thyme + Miso Paste does not an appetising meal make!
There is a sadistic part of me that wants to give this a try…
you’d feed that to someone?
