Well, that was speedy. Yesterday, Microsoft kicked off its Office 365 Summit in Sydney by saying that hosting for Office 365 and Dynamics CRM in its Australian data centres would be coming very, very soon. Today, it has launched the service.
Microsoft’s announcement means it has met its original commitment to launch the service by March 2015, albeit by the narrowest of margins. (My inner cynic suspects it had hoped to make a launch announcement on the first day of the summit but suffered some last-minute technical hitches.)
As we noted yesterday, using the local data centres is only an option for Business customers. General users and students have to take Office 365 from wherever it is served.
In other Office 365 news, Microsoft is also rolling out the basic free mobile device management (MDM) options for business customers which it also promised last year. That will become available over the next 4-6 weeks.
