Android: Enabling pattern unlock is smart, but the flexibility of lock screen shortcuts means that many of us don’t bother, because it’s just easier to be able to quick-launch apps before unlocking first. LockScreen One Touch for All is a new utility that combines both, offering flexibility without sacrificing privacy.
Despite its rather long name, the app is very simple. Once installed, you can lay out a pattern of apps on your lock screen. To launch any of them, draw your unlock pattern among the app icons on the lock screen, and then “land” on the app you want to open. Essentially, once you draw your unlock pattern, the next icon your finger moves to will be the one automatically launched. There’s a simple “unlock” icon that’ll drop you right to your home screen if you don’t want to launch a specific application. The video above shows you how this works.
The bonus here is that it makes your unlock pattern appear different every time you use it — if someone watches you unlock and then open a browser, and then watches you unlock again and open your camera, if they didn’t know they’d think you had two different unlock patterns. The app can also add your call log to the home screen, a shortcut to redial your last outgoing call, call one of six favourite phone numbers, open your contacts and more. The “premium” version even comes with a flashlight and strips out the ads.
The developer is actively working on the app, and it’s available right now over at the XDA forums as a download (or over at Google Play). You’ll have to wade through awkward English when using the app (the dev is Russian), but it’s not too difficult to figure out. Scroll down to make sure you get the most recent version (1.13 at the time of writing).
