Around these parts, there’s no substituting a good rinse with Listerine in the morning, but if you prefer natural mouthwash, or just want something a little different, the folks at Tipnut have an old but good recipe for cinnamon mouthwash. All you’ll need is a handful of cinnamon sticks, some water, and a container to keep your mouthwash in.

The preparation is simple: just boil five sticks of cinnamon in a cup of water for about five minutes (the recipe calls for five sticks to a cup, but I imagine you could get away with several cups more than that.) Then pull out the cinnamon sticks and allow the water to cool. Store it in a mason jar, an old plastic bottle you can keep next to the sink, or even in a small spray bottle you can spritz your mouth with before heading into a meeting — whatever works.
If you really want to spice up the mouthwash with some more bad breath-busting spices and herbs, hit the Tipnut link below. They have additional recipes that call for everything from cloves and cardamom to fennel seeds and parsley. I dig the cinnamon approach because cinnamon sticks have loads of uses and are worth keeping around anyway — but let’s be fair, this is no replacement for real bacteria-crushing, tongue burning mouthwash — it’s more of a breath freshener than anything else.
