Colorapi is a slick web app that serves one purpose: to help people choose colour palettes according to general ideas by using photos. Using the web app is as simple as entering a search term for whatever you want the colour schemes to be inspired by, like summer. It returns a grid of Flickr photos matching that term (with pretty high relevancy), along with swatches made up of their dominant colours. Basically, you don’t have to feel so lost when you’re looking at something and thinking “I want the colour scheme for this to be… like pecan pie.”
The number of colours in each swatch can be adjusted from the basic 6, all the way to 12, and are downloadable as Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) files. Every colour in a swatch set is also labelled with either RGB or hexadecimal values, with HSL and HSV as additional options for the dabbling professionals out there.
