Obviously Telstra didn’t want other carriers getting all the sub-$100 Android love. On March 22, it will launch the Smart-Touch, a $99 phone with a 2.8 inch resistive screen running Android 2.1.
This obviously isn’t the phone for advanced Android tweakers (a category which covers a lot of Lifehacker readers), and the network lock-in could be a nuisance, but it’s great to see viable alternatives taking Android to the mass market. Telstra is also adjusting its prepaid rates to offer extra data and call credits — Nick has the full details over at Gizmodo.
